Durga leads the salon's colour work — foils, balayage, regrowth and toning. Alex has thirty years behind the chair and a former salon of her own, and works across colour correction as well as foils, balayage and keratin smoothing.
- Upkeep is part of the plan. The team will tell you how a placement grows out before they start, so you can choose a look you can live with between visits.
- Priced by length and thickness, not guessed. Every colour service on our booking page is priced by how much hair there is, so the number you see is the number for your hair.
- A wash and dry-off is included. Every colour service includes a wash and dry-off at no extra cost. A styled blow-dry is booked alongside if you would like one.
- Colour and beauty in one visit. A brow tidy, a tint or a facial can sit in the same booking, in the private room off the salon floor.

All three lighten sections of hair. What separates them is where the lightness starts and how it grows out — which is really a question about how often you want to come back.
Back-to-back foils

How much is hair colour in Canterbury?
At Lahana a T-zone regrowth starts at $45 and a full regrowth at $60. Full colour starts at $90, half-head highlights at $100, back-to-back foils at $150 and balayage at $200. Price depends on how long and thick your hair is — the full list is above.
What is the difference between balayage, foils and highlights?
Highlights and foils both lighten sections wrapped in foil, worked from the root, which gives even, repeatable brightness. Balayage is painted on by hand and left free, so the lightness starts further down and grows out softly. Foils suit brightness and evenness; balayage suits a soft result you can leave longer between visits.
Is a blow-dry included with hair colour?
A wash and dry-off is included with any colour service at no extra cost. If you would like a styled finish, book a wash and blow-dry alongside your colour — that starts at $40.
How often should I have my regrowth done?
Most clients book every four to six weeks. Lahana prices by how much regrowth there is, so up to six weeks, seven to ten weeks and more than ten weeks are each priced separately — leaving it longer does not mean paying for a full colour.
Do you do colour correction?
Yes. Alex has thirty years behind the chair and works across colour correction. It is quoted after the team has seen your hair, because the work depends entirely on what is already on it. Ring the salon and describe what has happened, and they will tell you what is involved.
How long will I be in the chair?
A T-zone regrowth is about an hour. A full colour runs from an hour and twenty minutes to about three hours on extra long hair. Highlights, foils and balayage run from about an hour and a half to three hours. The booking page shows the time for each option.
Do I need a patch test?
If you have not had colour with us before, tell the team when you book and they will advise what is needed for the colour you are having.
Can I book colour on a Sunday?
Yes. Lahana is open Sunday 10am to 4pm, and Saturday from 9am. Weekend colour appointments book out first, so it is worth booking ahead.
