Twenty years of it

Threading is not a sideline here.
It is what we are known for.

Durga has been threading for more than twenty years and still shapes brows herself. Pinky and Sara thread every day the salon is open, so there is always someone on the floor who does this all week rather than occasionally.

A question we are asked daily

Threading or waxing?

Both remove the hair from the root, so both last about the same time. The difference is how the hair comes away, and that is what makes one suit a brow better than the other.

Threading

  • A cotton thread only — nothing is applied to the skin.
  • Takes hair a row at a time, so the line of the brow is precise.
  • Reaches short, fine hairs between the brows.
  • Ten to twenty minutes for brows.
  • $20 for eyebrows.

Waxing

  • Warm wax lifts a whole section in one movement.
  • Faster over large areas such as legs, arms and back.
  • Useful when there is a lot to clear rather than a shape to hold.
  • Five to twenty-five minutes on the face.
  • $20 for eyebrows, $55 for a full face including brows.

Lahana does both, so nothing here is a sales pitch for one over the other. If you are not sure, say so when you arrive and the team will look at your brows and tell you which they would use.

Watch

The part clients rarely get to watch.

Threading is quick, but it is not casual. This is the detail and patience behind a brow shape, filmed in the salon.

Brows and hair in the same visit

Most salons near Canterbury are a hair salon with a little beauty attached, or a brow bar on its own. Lahana does both properly, in one room, with one booking — so a brow tidy can sit alongside a trim, a regrowth colour or a blow-dry without a second trip.

Good to know

Threading questions.

The ones we are asked most often.

How much is eyebrow threading in Canterbury?

Eyebrow threading at Lahana is $20. Eyebrows with the upper lip is $25, eyebrows with upper lip and forehead is $30, and a full face including the eyebrows is $55. The full list is above.

Is threading better than waxing for eyebrows?

They do the same job in different ways. Threading uses only a cotton thread, takes hair a row at a time and gives a very defined line, which is why it suits the fine work around a brow. Waxing clears a wider area in one movement and is quicker over large areas. Lahana does both, and the team will tell you which they would use on your brows.

Does threading hurt?

Most people describe it as a quick sting that passes as the thread moves. It is over in ten to twenty minutes for brows. Tell the team if you would like them to slow down or take a break — they will.

How long does eyebrow threading last?

Most clients come back every three to four weeks. Hair grows at different rates, so the team will suggest a rhythm that suits you after your first visit.

Do I need to book, or can I walk in?

Brows take ten to twenty minutes and walk-ins are welcome whenever the team has a gap. Booking online through Fresha guarantees the time, and is worth doing on Saturdays.

What is the difference between henna brows and a brow tint?

A brow tint colours the hair and is $15. Henna brows colour the hair and stain the skin underneath, which fills sparse patches and holds a shape for longer, and is $50. Threading with henna brows together is $60.

What is brow lamination?

Lamination sets the brow hairs in one direction so they sit fuller and stay where they are put. It is $65, or $80 with a tint, and it is often booked with threading so the shape is tidied first.

It is my first time — what happens?

The team will look at your natural brow shape and talk through what they would take and what they would leave before starting. Nothing is removed until you have agreed to it. If you would like very little taken off the first time, say so.
